I recently was having a discussion with a young lady who told me of these computer based learning modules her company was using. These CBLs are an example of Lean methodology in action. This is a visual training tool that teaches "best practice" standard work to new empoloyees. It does my heart good to see companies using something that appeals to the new generation and the way that they are accustomed to getting information, as well as, giving them a quick introduction to Lean thinking even if they do not realize it.

The underlying message there was also that God is always watching. Religion is like knowledge in that it can be used for both good and bad. A person can take religion and better themselves or they can use it as a reason to disparage others. There are many religions in the world and it is important to remember that they are neither right or wrong, good nor bad, merely tools used by humanity. All actions of religion fall on the shoulders of mankind.

The New President: As I sit here watching the inauguration of President Obama I am listening to the news reporters and the people interviewed. The resounding theme is that of the importance of the first African American President. How ignorant our society is! Today is about the inauguration of the 44th President. If we need to see a new era then we must look at the truth. We as a nation have elected a multi-racial president. Part African, part White, but most importantly American! Who better to represent the melting pot of American than a person that is of multiple cultures. I hope that the new President finds success in guiding our nation in the direction it needs to go. The President spoke of our patchwork heritage and of our soldiers abroad that protect our freedom. He spoke of America not the race of the citizens. I see hope in his eyes. Do not disrespect that by stereotyping him by his skin color. If you are excited today because our President has dark skin then you are the problem. If this is the cause for your excitement then please look in the mirror and view the racist that holds America back.

Does Obama mean a brighter future for the African-American?

I have heard many reporters and leaders claim the election of the first “black” president to mean a change for the future. One would like to think that this would fulfill the dream of great leaders like Martin Luther King. I believe that just the opposite is true. I believe that the condition of the African-American community would lead him to tears. In a time when America has finally reached a point where African-Americans have more than ever and no position is beyond them it remains squandered. The youth could care less about the accomplishments of Obama and their community. They know or care little about this. Their eyes are on their true role models and what they see is scary. Rappers who fill their songs with idealizing drugs, guns, and demeaning women litter the airwaves. Athletes who have more money than they need but have no idea how to live in society. They go to jail for dog fighting, shootings in night clubs, and abusing women. Rappers are facing drug and gun charges and rap about how they don’t care if they go to jail. This type of behavior teaches the kids that this is how successful people act. If you listen to rap music you would think that the road to success was paved with slinging dope, shooting your enemies, and then landing a fat record contract. While most teenagers (including mine) cannot tell you where the President was born or even what his career was before politics they know every song on their IPod by heart. Obama cannot bring change to a people who idealize criminals.

Christmas Tangle

During the Christmas season it always seems as if there is so much to do that you do not get to enjoy the holiday. In todays time of extreme family dynamics it becomes even more difficult. There is also the changing of the work trends. Places do not close for the length of time that they used to. No longer are there only two sets of grandparents on each side. There are parents, step parents, and various in-laws to deal with. It seams that no one actually celebrates on the day of anymore. There has to be some point at which we just stop and decide which things are the most important. Every family member does not have to have their own event. As I traveled last year I realized that I see the same people at the different events. I have decided that I will just do the best that I can and let the rest wash out. I have an immediate family and everyone must realize that it is about the children. I know that the extended family really want their own memories with everyone but there are somethings to consider. This year will be last that my kid is at home. College and life will make things change after this year. There will be time for us to run around after she has her own commitments but this year is about her. I will try my best to make that happen. I think that at some point everyone has to do the same. I can remember my mother saying that just one year she would like to do a family Christmas without running to all the in-laws and now I get it. She never did that and I think perhaps she should have. Time is the one thing that we can not get back. As we enter this holiday I would wish that each and everyone of you get the opportunity to make your family time special. Make your memories today and share them later.

Why bail out the undeserving

Why is the governments natural reaction to the financial crisis to bail out the people who created the problems. It is amazing that they think the answer is bailing them out is burdening the taxpayer with all the debt. The New Business Failure

The new problem for business is that we have lost touch with what is the true driver of the business. In case your wondering customers are what should drive the business. If you are suppling what the customer wants you will not have to worry about the rest. The rest will fall into place if you take care of this. We as a cooperate community have forgotten that. We attempt to drive the business from the top down. We decide what we think we should provide based on the profit and never consider the customer. CEO's and Boards decide what is best and what to implement without the input of the lower infrastructure. Local management ignores their employees input. This is ignorant since they are the bottom line, true subject matter experts. GM is a fine example of a company that is falling from greatness because they are ignoring what the consumer wants and are instead trying to convince the consumer they need what they are building. We must change this trend or as American companies we will fail to succeed.

Over the last couple of months my eyes have been opened to a great new software. The Open Office software is completely free. That is right FREE. What a concept. I know what your thinking, if it is free it cannot be any good. I have tried it for the last month. I go to school online and am required to use MS Office, I have replaced it with Open Office for the last month and have had no problems. I have actually found it so easy to us I have loaded it onto a flash drive and use it at work during my daily activities, flash drives with U3 technology will allow you to do this. Fast Food Families

My thoughts today are centered on society’s ignorance and the ability to blame anyone but themselves. It is impossible for you to have turned on the news or picked up a paper without hearing that fast food kid’s meals are not healthy. Surprise, Surprise! Why did we need a study for this and why are the results so shocking? Have we become so stupid that we stand and watch the workers pull the food out of a vat of grease and dump salt all over it and think it is healthy? Come on, really you thought it was healthy. Moron! Now we want the food providers to make the food healthier for our kids. Here is a novel idea, stop feeding it to them all the time. Stay at home, fix them a real meal, toss the baseball, have a tea party, swing, or slide. This will make your child healthier. Fast food changing the menus will not. Only you can change your lifestyle. Do not act shocked as if you didn’t know, YOU KNEW, and you ignored it until some study slapped you in the face with it on the news. Are you truly concerned or just afraid all the other parents will look at you with the evil eye and snicker when you hit the drive-thru?

I watched with interest all the information into the Democratic Party's squabble this past week. It would seem to me that you would not want so much fighting inside your own party. I am amazed that they decided votes cast in the primaries by the faithful Democrats who went out to vote are only worth half. If I was one of the voters in those primaries I would just not vote in the election. Since the party didn't feel my vote was important I would no longer support them. If the party continues down this road of super delegates they will destroy themselves. We all see what has happened when a president wins an election but looses the popular vote. The idea of weighted votes is ridiculous. If Hillary gets the popular vote and they run Obama, or vise versa, the party will loose in the presidential election. You cannot ignore the majority. I do not like Obama, so many say I am racist. I do not like Hillary, so I am pegged as sexist. I would have voted for Edwards, so I am pegged as supporting the white stereotype. I would vote for Condoleezza Rice in a heart beat! So you can all bite me. Pick the right candidate and no one will care what color or gender they are. All votes count and the liberal agenda need not forget it.

If this artist attempted these actions of self mutilation and display in any other setting we would send her for a mental evaluation. The fact this has been allowed to occur by the teachers and advisors is appalling and does a disservice to the school. I am ashamed that we allow our young adults to think that this type of thing is appropriate, much less art. It is also disparaging to the school that after all the years they have taught this lady she believes this is what art is. I doubt she will be able to find a job doing this for a living.

First Action

I was reading the paper and saw that another teen in South Carolina was planning to attack his school. His parents became concerned when a bunch of fertilizer (used to make bombs) arrived at their house. They alerted police and the boy was arrested. All appropriate action was taking and the situation dissolved. The boy had detailed plans and the materials to act. The incident was stopped. the problem is the initial reaction was wrong. The mother of the boy should have called the police and told them what was going on followed by this, “you can spot him right away officer. He will be the boy in the front yard getting beat half to death by his father.” To which the officer should reply, “back up is in route please assist your husband in beating the teen and we will take over as soon as we get there.” Had my child attempted something so stupid they would be relived to see the cops that much I am sure of. It is time we stop babysitting children and start disciplining them. We are seeing the first generation of the “you can’t spank me, my teacher said so” kids getting into and shooting up colleges. The next generation is going to be worse. We have 3rd graders plotting to kidnap and kill teachers. Cheerleaders abducting and beating classmates just to put it on You tube and My space. I hope that people understand what is wrong with our kids is us. I was afraid to behave in such a way, I did some crazy things but there was a line I would never cross. Why? Simple, I was afraid of what would happen when my Dad found out!

Obama recently said that small town Americans hold onto their guns because they are bitter. What reason do you think he gives for inner city gangs having theirs? I remember watching the LA riots and seeing a Korean Store being defended by its owner. He was on top of the building armed with a rifle protecting the American dream that he had built. I thought what a great American. That is what America is all about, the right to defend yourself. The American Revolution started to defend ourselves against the British oppression. Mr. Obama would have us give that up. I tell you what Mr. Obama, lead by example. When you become President be sure to let those Secret Service agents know that you don’t want them caring guns. If you practice what you preach and are still around after a year or two then you were right! I will then give up my guns. It shows the stupidity of a person when they think that making firearms illegal will solve gun violence. If all the people who have guns legally gave them up, the criminals who have them illegally would have more victims. The person thinking of using their gun for an illegal action does not care if guns are illegal or not. The Democratic Party has just lost my vote when they run this man for president.

My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of the Iraq regime has been completed. Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete. This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq this action will be complete within 30 days. It is now time to begin the reckoning. Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there. The other list contains every one not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening. Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war. THEN EVERY YEAR THERE AFTER It’ll GO TO OUR SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM SO IT WONT GO BROKE IN 20 YEARS. The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hell holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption. Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? I received this message in an email the other day from my Father: “I heard something on the radio today that got me thinking. The first 6 years of the Bush administration the economy did great, record low unemployment, housing was strong, etc. In 2006 the American people wanted a change - they elected a democratic congress. In the last two years we have entered a recession, housing is in the toilet, unemployment is growing, and racial tension is running the highest in years. A coincidence? I think not. Think on this …… What will happen if we have a democrat for president, a democratically controlled Senate and Congress?” I pondered what he said and it began to disturb me. What if all the power was in the hands of the Democratic Party? I watch the debates and speeches of Obama and Clinton and can’t help but be concerned. They are so busy fighting each other and causing so much division in the ranks that it would be a divided government that hated each other. So pretty much what we have now! The current administration has taken a proactive approach to everything on a global scale. Right or wrong I believe this to be a good thing even when it is misguided. The Democrats on the other hand have a “wait and see attitude” which is a bad way to be viewed by the rest of the world. The Democrats promised change when running for congress and here we are waiting! What will they do when they have it? Who will there be to blame then? Makes you miss the John F Kennedy doesn’t it. In 1961, a young African-American man, after hearing President John F. Kennedy's challenge to, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines. In 1963, this man, having completed his two years of service in the Marines, volunteered again to become a Navy corpsman. (They provide medical assistance to the Marines as well as to Navy personnel.) The man did so well in corpsman school that he was the valedictorian and became a cardiopulmonary technician. Not surprisingly, he was assigned to the Navy's premier medical facility, Bethesda Naval Hospital, as a member of the commander in chief's medical team, and helped care for President Lyndon B. Johnson after his 1966 surgery. For his service on the team, which he left in 1967, the White House awarded him three letters of commendation. What is even more remarkable is that this man entered the Marines and Navy not many years after the two branches began to become integrated. While this young man was serving six years on active duty, Vice President Dick Cheney, who was born the same year as the Marine/ sailor, received five deferments, four for being an undergraduate and graduate student and one for being a prospective father. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both five years younger than the African-American youth, used their student deferments to stay in college until 1968. Both then avoided going on active duty through family connections. Who is the real patriot? The young man who interrupted his studies to serve his country for six years or our three political leaders who beat the system? The Democratic Mistake

The Democratic Party has made a key error in the candidate for the presidential election. They have spent so much time focusing on being extremely liberal that they have failed to think of winning. I wish this country was ready for a woman or an African American to take our highest office. I do not believe that the majority of Americans are as liberal as they claim to be. When the curtain closes and they are alone in the election booth all the rhetoric goes out the window and a choice must be made. I don’t believe it will be in the democrats favor regardless of who gets the nomination. The Democratic Party had the perfect opportunity to get in the white house by a landslide vote. All they needed was a candidate that would be liberal enough for the party members and would be conservative enough to get the republican voters that are fed up with the Bush administration. John Edwards was such a candidate. It also appears that they are creating a lot of division amongst their own party members. They have basically handed the election to the republicans. The Democratic Party would like to think that the minorities will vote for their candidates. They must realize that the opposite is also true. The republicans could run on the slogan that at least their candidate is not African American or a woman. Contrary to popular belief there are still a lot of blue collar middle class white Americans out there. They will not hand over their guns, they do not trust Hillary, and they are not ready for Obama. I am a strong believer in that you play to win or don’t play at all. The democrats are busy playing the liberal game while losing site of the goal. The republicans chose a candidate and did so early to get the democrats to fall over themselves to find the opposite of that candidate. It is as if the democrats said, let’s fight amongst ourselves and air our party’s dirty laundry to the world to see who takes on the old white guy. By the time they finish trashing each other who will want to vote for the winner of the nomination. They will already have been portrayed as incompetent by their own party.

Step-parent the worst job

There are many step-parents who have the help of their biological counterpart. This is not about them. Today is about the step-parent who must live in the shadow of a parent who has abandoned their child. The biological parent chooses to have no contact with the child or a limited contact, on occasion, creating an environment that is heartbreaking to the child. This type of situation is also heart breaking to the step-parent. We as step-parents constantly live in the shadows of someone not worth a second thought. This person, biological or not, does not deserve the affection of the child because of their abandonment. Step-parents are blessed with the child in their life; however, they constantly deal with knowing that they will never be more than a stand in for the real thing. Eventually they will have to hear those dreaded words, “you are not my real Mom/Dad” and it will kill them. It is the worst feeling in the world knowing that no matter that the love you have for the child will never be fully returned.

Fed chairman Ben Bernanke called for better financial education, and linked the woeful state of basic economic knowledge to the housing crisis. Bernanke said, "In light of the problems that have arisen in the subprime mortgage market, we are reminded of how critically important it is for individuals to become financially literate at an early age so that they are better prepared to make decisions and navigate an increasingly complex financial marketplace." It's hard to disagree with him on this point, but a cynic might wonder if a poorly educated population is really the source of the housing crisis. Sure, Americans don't know much about the power of compound interest or how to calculate net present value, but that's not why the economy is in trouble. The housing bubble was produced by people who knew what they were doing -- mortgage brokers who winked at "liar's loans" and sophisticated bankers who created new financial instruments to get rid of the bad debt. I keep hearing and reading how today's youth need role models and heroes. They say sports stars and musicians should be better role models. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!!! My role model and hero is my father. He has worked his whole life to create a better world. There is a link marked school on this blog, if you click on it you will see his picture. He worked a full time job and with the help of my mother raised three boys. During this same time he earned a doctorate degree and founded a seminary. What today's youth need is less absentee parents and more parents striving to be their child’s heroes. A child can't call some superstar for advice at two o'clock in the morning, I can call my dad. How great would it be if all children were hugged good night by their heroes, the ones called mom and dad?

Why is it that so many people manage to get a degree? We all work with at least one if not more that are educated stupid. When I say this you think it is a contradiction. It is not. We became a society that sent everyone to college no matter what. The colleges fell in love with money and as long as you paid you played. Now there are many people who get jobs because of a degree that they hold, someone under them with no degree has to cover for their stupidity. I would rather work for someone with 5 years experience in the field than someone with a 4 year degree. Education is great but even a doctor has an internship. Please colleges make an internship in the degree field a must have to graduate.

When you go to buy a car why do they insist on trying to sell you something other than what you want? I am very specific. I say what I want. If I am undecided I ask for options. When a customer wants a specific car the salesman should find that car. Not try to convence them they want one they have there. The other thing is the back and forth over price. I have walked off 2 lots in the last week. Money in hand and they lose a sell because they want to negotiate this and that. Selling is simple. Listen to what the customer wants. Find what they want. Give them your best price. Then they buy it or they don't. If these dealerships had done this they would have sold a car this week.

The country is alredy in debt. So we are going to borrow money from other countries to give to the taxpayers. And the hope is you run out and spend it. Since everything is made over seas who is this helping. If they want to help the countries economy they should limit outsourceing goods and services to other countries. I know profits and stocks would not yeild the huge returns and your 401k wouldn't look as fat but it would be strong. When the bottom falls out how is going to look then.
